Dr. Alonda Nicholson
Dr. Alonda M. Nicholson, a proud product of the Jackson Public School District, graduated from John W. Provine in the top ten percent of her class. Dr. Nicholson is a graduate of Jackson State University, Jackson, Mississippi, where she has earned degrees that have enhanced her knowledge in the field of education. She has pursued additional studies at Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, as an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow, State University of New York at Albany, Albany, New York, and Indiana University Center on Philanthropy, Indianapolis, Indiana, receiving National Certification as a Fundraising Manager.
As an educator, Dr. Nicholson has 19 years of experience. She began her career as a Social Studies teacher in 2006 at Jim Hill High School. After having taught the International Baccalaureate Midde Years (IB/MYP) Humanities course, she was promoted to serve as the IB/MYP Coordinator at Jim Hill. Within that same year, as the IB/MYP Coordinator, she was promoted to an Assistant Principal at Jim Hill. Dr. Nicholson has served as an Assistant Principal for nine years within the Jackson Public School District. From 2020-2024, she served in that capacity at Murrah High School.
Dr. Nicholson’s educational philosophy is grounded in the belief that all children can learn and deserve the same opportunity to learn regardless of their abilities, environment, background and socioeconomic status.
